Zhang Weili: Chinese champ looking to defend for third time

Zhang Weili (25-3) is a two-time UFC strawweight champion and the Chinese star continues to impress every time she steps in the Octagon. After losing back-to-back fights with Rose Namajunas, she has won her last four fights against some of the best the UFC has to offer. During that time, she has won three Performance of the Night bonuses and Zhang Weili is arguably getting better with age.

Tatiana Suarez: Unbeaten star looking to become strawweight champion

Tatiana Suarez (10-0) has enjoyed quite the rise in the UFC as after winning the strawweight tournament in The Ultimate Fighter back in 2016, she has risen all the way to the top. While she has yet to be beaten in a professional MMA fight, it has not all been plain sailing for Suarez as she has faced injury after injury in recent years but a couple of wins against quality opponents has seen her earn a title shot.

Zhang Weili vs Tatiana Suarez Prediction

The co-main event has all the hallmarks of being an absolute cracker and something has to give in this bout between Zhang Weili and Tatiana Suarez.

It is Suarez who comes into the fight as a favourite which is an unusual situation for Zhang Weili to be an underdog.

Suarez has an outstanding level of wrestling which is arguably why she is the favourite here and that will be the foundation for her if she does win.

We would make the champion the slight favourite however. She has been far more active than Suarez, has fought in five-rounders several times, and has been fighting at such a high level for such a long time.

We like the value on Zhang Weili here. She is going to have to somehow quell Suarez’s wrestling if she is to get the win but her striking power is one way that she can slow her unbeaten opponent down. She is our marginal preference but we like this one going to the scorecards.

Prediction: Fight to go the distance
