The Stats Zone

About

Hello! And thank you for taking the time to read our ‘About’ page, or at least the first sentence. You’ve made it this far, so you may as well continue now.

What is TSZ all about?

Glad you asked! What you see here on the website is just one aspect of TSZ Content Ltd. Our aim is to provide expert, preview-focussed content with a statistical slant for a whole host of sports, from traditional football to Aussie rules football (we don’t just do football!).

We boast a wide-ranging network of sporting experts from across the globe who live and breathe their chosen sports, so much so that merely watching it isn’t enough, they want to write about it for us!

From very humble beginnings where we produced a handful of long-form, statistical deep-dive articles each week, we realised we had a knack for predicting the outcome of events and our focus soon changed. There was a time when we’d pester family and friends to visit the site in order to boost our Analytics but that is thankfully no longer the case as we now boast well over 500k unique visitors per month – and these figures are constantly rising as we increase the breadth of our coverage.

What sports does TSZ cover?

An ever-growing portfolio, but here’s a quick overview of where we focus our efforts:

What types of content are produced?

What else does TSZ do?

Alongside thestatszone.com, we also have a b2b arm to the company where we work directly with the betting and affiliate industry to provide tailor-made content to suit the needs of the client.

Covering several hundred competitions and thousands of events, we pride ourselves on meeting any demand and delivering to the strictest of deadlines. We have previously provided bespoke, data-driven services to one of the biggest sports content providers in the UK, and we look forward to connecting with others in the industry looking to benefit from the expertise we provide.

Aside from our core team listed below, the TSZ network extends to freelance journalists from around the globe, which naturally encompasses a variety of time zones. This has allowed us to meet any deadline required by former clients.

Meet the key players!

Alright, you’ve heard our spiel, but who’s behind it all?

ROB ESTEVA

The founder/gaffer/big cheese, TSZ is the brainchild of Rob Esteva, who founded the company in 2016 and has taken it from strength to strength since. Remarkable really, considering the fact Rob has at least 48 other jobs, not least his role as a Data Specialist for UEFA & FIFA and Director of Football at local club Altrincham. In his free time, if such a thing exists for him, Rob is a keen follower of Everton, so he’s clearly a glutton for punishment.

TRYSTAN PUGH

Trystan oversees the general running of the website and ensures the team are kept busy on a day-to-day basis. He’s been around since the early days of TSZ despite not originally being Rob’s first choice as Content Manager, which he is constantly reminding the boss of. He needs to let it go. A lover of both playing and watching racket sports, Trystan is annoyingly competitive and is far too obsessed with fantasy football.

ASH WHELDON

Although a keen follower of many sports, Ash’s chief passions are Rugby League – where his beloved Hull FC offer him delight and despair in equal measure – and NFL. Anything involving an oval-shaped ball, really. He’s been writing for TSZ from day one and has logged more articles than anyone else.

ALEX SARWAR

Alex is an avid fan of all forms of cricket and forms an integral part of TSZ’s bat and ball coverage, in addition to his in-depth knowledge of world football. As an avid fantasy football player, he loves nothing more than telling his colleagues why their FPL teams are rubbish, which has made him a good fit for our coverage in that area. Alex has done plenty of sports commentary in his time, so the rest of the team delight in the comical mispronunciations that have become his trademark.

ADAM EVANS

Adam is our resident tennis expert who has a unique turn of phrase thanks to his background in creative writing and comedy. You won’t find a bigger Andy Murray fan, so the last few years have been tough on him, while the fact he is a Liverpool supporter is a real source of angst for Rob.

ALEX LAWES

The latest in a long line of staffers who begin with the letter A and, just to make emails extra confusing, the second of his name on the team. Alex is a sports statistics enthusiast who is tailor-made for TSZ, and in his spare time the Bolton Wanderers fan writes a blog and runs a Twitter account devoted to the Trotters.

EWAN LAVENDER

You’d be hard-pressed to find a man more passionate about combat sports than Ewan, who has been penning our MMA previews since the early days. His passion for the fight game burns through in his articles, but we do worry about the lack of sleep he must get from following the UFC here in the UK.

EMMA COLLIER

Graphic designer Emma is kept on her toes by the increasing demands for flashy graphics and thumbnails in the world of sport but, having received a First at the Manchester School of Art, she is more than up to the task and has played a key role in shaping the look and feel of TSZ.

MATT HIRST

Rarely seen without watching some kind of sport or following live sports updates, his broad (often random) knowledge of the subject not only makes him great to have on your pub quiz team, but perfect for data collection. As a long-suffering Leeds fan, it's been a tough season.

If you would like to get in touch with TSZ for any reason, be it for potential collaboration or just to tell us how great we are, head on over to our CONTACT page and we’ll respond to you as soon as we can!
