Yuliia Starodubtseva vs Karolina Muchova prediction

Yuliia Starodubtseva comfortably made it through to the second-round with a 6-2 6-2 win over Linda Fruhvirtova. She is enjoying a far more successful ran in Madrid than she managed in Stuttgart where she lost in the first-round of qualifying. 

Karolia Muchova is her opponent, with the Czech player not having featured on the tour over the last month. She was defeated by Elina Svitolina in the third-round of Miami in three sets. Her form has eased off but she did have a really encouraging February, making the semi-finals in Linz and Dubai. 

Muchova did not feature during the majority of the clay season in 2024 due to wrist surgery but still did make a final on the surface, losing to Zheng Qinwen in Palermo. She made the final of the French Open in 2023 and can be a match for anyone on clay.

Her fitness and ability to incorporate softer shots such as drop shots makes Muchova a particularly dangerous player on clay and we think she’s good value to win in straight sets.
