Yosuke Watanuki is living the dream right now at Indian Wells as he somehow finds himself in the third round. He was a little fortuitous last time out as he was 4-6 4-2 against Tomas Machac but his Czech opponent was forced to withdraw and the Japanese 26-year-old now finds himself playing prime time against Frances Tiafoe.

Credit to Watanuki and the world number 349 now faces Tiafoe who he met in Miami two years ago. Tiafoe won that match but it was a three-set battle and incredibly hard-fought as he edged it 6-7 7-6 6-4.

Tiafoe had a tough opening match against Damir Dzumhur but he edged it 7-6 7-6. The 27-year-old will be eager to improve on that performance and it may just ensure that there is no complacency against such a lowly-ranked opponent.

Tiafoe should not have any issues here and Watanuki’s dream week will likely come to an end. Expect a straight-sets win for Tiafoe.
