Yannick Hanfmann vs Jakub Mensik prediction

Yanick Hanfmann has not got his clay court season going as of yet, with an early exit at the Houston Open followed by a loss at the first stage of qualifying for Monte-Carlo. The German lost to David Goffin in three sets. 

He also struggled in the earlier clay court events in South America, failing to make it out of qualifying at the Rio Open and losing in the round of 16 in Chile. In the latter event, he did take top seed Francisco Cerundolo to a third set and lost out in a tight tiebreak.

His first-round opponent is Jakub Mensik, who plays in his first event since a stunning victory in Miami. This fine victory sees him move up to 23 in the world and he’s seeded six here.

The head-to-head is 1-1, with both encounters being on clay last year. Mensik won the first match in Madrid in straight sets but Hanfmann exacted revenge just a few weeks later in Rome with a similarly comfortable win. 

Mensik may take some time to get going, making his first clay court appearance of the season, but we’re backing the 19-year-old to safely book his place into the next round.
