Werder Bremen Team News: Grull and Njinmah in battle for start

The big question from a Werder perspective is who will start alongside Marvin Ducksch up top. Marco Grull got the nod last time out, but Justin Njinmah came off the bench and is putting huge pressure on Grull for his place in the side. Elsewhere, Felix Agu is out injured, as are three other players including Keke Topp.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Zetterer; Veljkovic, Friedl, Jung; Weiser, Schmid, Lynen, Stage, Kohn; Ducksch, Njinmah

Unavailable: Agu (Injured), Malatini (Injured), Opitz (Injured), Topp (Injured)

Mainz Team News: Burkardt missing up top

Mainz won’t have forward Jonathan Burkardt available due to injury and he is one of four players expected to be missing for the visitors. Nelson Weiper is likely to get the nod in attack, although Armindo Sieb is also in the frame. New signing Lennard Maloney could start in central midfield.

Predicted XI (3-4-3): Zentner; Da Costa, Bell, Kohr; Caci, Maloney, Amiri, Mwene; Lee, Weiper, Nebel

Unavailable: Burkardt (Injured), Dal (Injured), Jenz (Injured), Vidovic (Injured)

Werder Bremen Vs Mainz Prediction

Werder Bremen may be in the midst of a winless run right now but at least their 2-2 draw against Borussia Dortmund demonstrated their ability to score and gave them a platform in which to build on moving forwards. Mainz remain inconsistent, losing two and winning one of their last three and it’s hard to tell what sort of performance we’ll see from them here.

The expectation is that Werder will have success offensively against this Mainz side, who will miss Jonathan Burkardt up top. This gives the hosts an advantage and they stand a good chance of outscoring their opponents provided their backline can remain focused and cut out any sloppy errors. Utilise the safety of the draw no bet market and back Werder to come out on top.
