Werder Bremen Preview: Much-needed win for Werder

Werder Bremen come into this one on the back an impressive 2-0 defeat of the rotated and distracted champions, Bayer Leverkusen, at the BayArena last weekend thanks to a goal from Romano Schmid early on and then from Justin Njinmah late on.

That impressive victory ended a five-match losing streak across all competitions which has seen them drift away from the European spots as well as being knocked out of the DFB-Pokal by 2. Bundesliga side Arminia Bielefeld at the quarter-final stage.

Borussia Monchengladbach Preview: Inconsistent Gladbach

Borussia Monchengladbach, still under the management of former Bayer Leverkusen and Young Boys coach Gerardo Seoane, have been typically chaotic and entertaining to watch but they have lacked consistency as they begin the weekend sitting firmly in mid-table.

The visitors most recently suffered a 3-1 defeat at home to high-flying Mainz at Borussia-Park last weekend. That came a week after they had dispatched of struggling Heidenheim by three goals to nil and they have won four, lost five and drawn one of their ten games in 2025.

Werder Bremen Team News: Weiser suspended

Key midfielder Mitchel Weiser is missing through suspension for Werder Bremen this weekend as they also deal with a few other experienced injury issues such as former Austria international Marco Friedl as well as versatile forward Marvin Ducksch.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Zetterer; Pieper, Veljkovic, Jung; Bittencourt, Stage, Lynen, Schmid, Agu; Burke, Silva

Unavailable: Stark (Injured), Friedl (Injured), Weiser (Suspended), Covic (Illness), Ducksch (Injured)

Questionable:

Borussia Monchengladbach Team News: Couple of suspensions

Borussia Monchengladbach have a couple of suspension issues as they make the trip to Bremen with Japan international centre-back Ko Itakura sidelined alongside United States international full-back Joe Scally.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Omlin; Lainer, Friedrich, Elvedi, Ullrich; Sander, Weigl; Ngoumou, Stoger, Hack; Kleindienst

Unavailable: Nicolas (Injured), Itakura (Suspended), Scally (Suspended), Reitz (Injured), Honorat (Injured)

Werder Bremen vs Borussia Monchengladbach Prediction

Werder Bremen’s victory last weekend was incongruous given their form and the standard of opposition but they will believe it is a platform to build on and move themselves away from the bottom section of the Bundesliga table. They now face a Borussia Monchengladbach side that are themselves the Jekyll and Hyde team of Germany so this one is unpredictable but, given the visitors’ desire to play an attacking style and Werder’s potentially boosted confidence, both teams scoring may well be a good bet for this one.
