Victoria Azarenka is entering her first tournament of the European clay court season after picking up an injury in Miami last time out. She left the court in tears after withdrawing midway through her second-round match but has declared herself fit for this event. She is a two-time runner up at this tournament but her season has been average so far with a 4-6 record and just one event in which she has advanced beyond the second-round.

Olga Danilovic has begun the clay court season brilliantly, with a win at the WTA 125k tournament in Antalya followed up by a final appearance in Rouen where she lost to Elina Svitolina. She has won nine of her past 10 matches overall, all on clay, and should be confident of a deep run in Madrid.

Azarenka has been a great player but never totally flourished on clay, having won just one of her 21 WTA titles on the surface. She will be facing an opponent in Danilovic who is full of confidence and at ease with her game right now. We’re leaning towards the Serbian wrapping it up in straight sets.
