Veronika Kudermetova vs Marta Kostyuk prediction

Veronika Kudermetova has now bettered her two previous clay-court events this season by making the third-round of the Madrid Open. Her victory over her sister Polina in the first-round was followed up by a win over home favourite Cristiana Busca. Busca was a late replacement after Paula Badosa had earlier withdrawn from the tournament and Kudermetova did make a slow start, but she rallied to win 4-6 7-6 7-5 in a tight match.

Her opponent Marta Kostyuk had to battle her way through a close second-round match with Great Britain’s Emma Raducanu. The Ukrainian overcame a second set slump to win 6-4 2-6 6-2.

Kudermetova has the upper hand in the head-to-head, winning their two matches during the beginning of 2021 at the Abu Dhabi and Australian Open but this will be their first encounter on clay.

Kostyuk has never performed at her best on clay and Kudermetova could cause her a few problems as she has done in the past. We think there’s decent value for a three-set match between the pair.
