Venezia Preview: Becoming difficult to beat

Venezia, much like Eusebio Di Francesco did with Frosinone last season, have perhaps left it too late to batten down the hatches with the Venetians seeming destined for the drop with just three victories in 31 Serie A matches so far this season.

However, they have managed five fairly impressive draws in their last six matches in the league against the likes of Lazio, Atalanta, in-form Como, Napoli and then a more disappointing one last weekend away at Lecce in a game in which they did have the lead.

Monza Preview: Waiting for the maths for Monza

Monza, on the other hand, have endured a terrible season with a bizarre last few months. They begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting 11 points adrift of safety with just 21 points to play for having done some unusual things with the managerial role.

They sacked manager Alessandro Nesta at the turn of the year and replaced him with Salvatore Bocchetti but after just a month away from the role, the former AC Milan centre-back was brought back to oversee Monza’s inevitable demotion back down into the second-tier.

Venezia Team News: A few injuries

Venezia have a couple of fresh injury doubts such as defensive duo Alessandro Marcandalli and Joel Schingtienne. As well as those two potentially being unavailable, the likes of Michael Svoboda and Domen Crnigoj are confirmed absentees.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Radu; Haps, Idzes, Cande; Zerbin, Kike Perez, Caviglia, Busio, Carboni; Yeboah, Gytkjaer

Unavailable: Stankovic (Injured), Svoboda (Injured), Crnigoj (Injured)

Questionable: Marcandalli (Injured), Schingtienne (Injurd), Duncan (Injured), Maric (Injured)

Monza Team News: Kyriakopoulos suspended

Greek defender Georgios Kyriakopoulos is unavailable for this weekend’s trip to Venice as he is missing through suspension. As well as the absence of Kyriakopoulos, Matteo Pessina remains missing through injury, whilst they also deal with a couple of doubts, too.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Turati; Pereira, Izzo, D’Ambrosio; Birindelli, Ciurria, Bianco, Akpa Akpro, Lekovic; Balde, Dany Mota

Unavailable: Kyriakopoulos (Suspended), Pessina (Injured)

Questionable: Carboni (Injured), Zeroli (Injured)

Venezia vs Monza Prediction

Venezia, as mentioned, have pulled off some improved performances and results of late but that has mainly been down to their tighter defensive unit with a few goalless draws. However, even with a lack of threat in the final third, they now take on a Monza side that have been one of the weakest top-flight sides in any of Europe’s major leagues so a low-scoring Venezia victory would appear the way to go for this one.
