Venezia Preview: Treading water

Following their promotion back to the top-flight, Venezia lost manager Paolo Vanoli to Torino and replaced him with former Roma and Frosinone boss Eusebio Di Francesco but they begin this match day sitting rock-bottom in Serie A with just two victories in their 16 matches.

Di Francesco’s entertaining, albeit naïve, style has seen their last two games finish at 2-2 with very different opposition. They initially shared a four-goal draw with Como in Venice before then being denied a famous win in Turin by a late Dusan Vlahovic penalty against Juventus.

Cagliari Preview: Stubborn Sardinians

Cagliari appointed Serie A’s miracle worker Davide Nicola over the summer but with a different task to try and build a team from the start of the season. Early season supporter protests at their bad start have slipped away but they do remain in the bottom three and the danger zone.

The Sardinians come into this one on the back of suffering back-to-back defeats in the top-flight. They most recently suffered a 4-0 loss to Juventus in the Round of 16 of the Coppa Italia in midweek after previously losing to title challengers Fiorentina and Atalanta.

Venezia Team News: No Svoboda or Duncan

Venezia are without a couple of key first-teamers for this weekend’s visit of Cagliari. Defender Michael Svoboda is sidelined with a knee injury, whilst midfielder Alfred Duncan has a calf issue. Antonio Raimondo is also an injury doubt for the hosts.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Stankovic; Idzes, Crnigoj, Sverko; Zampano, Andersen, Caviglia, Ellertsson; Oristanio, Busio; Pohjanpalo

Unavailable: Svoboda (Injured), Duncan (Injured)

Questionable: Raimondo (Injured)

Cagliari Team News: Couple of doubts

Cagliari are dealing with a couple of injury doubts for this weekend’s trip to Venice as defender Adam Obert is suffering from illness. As well as Obert, they may well be without Zito Luvumbo once again due to an ankle injury.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Sherri; Zappa, Yerry Mina, Luperto; Zortea, Adopo, Makoumbou, Deiola, Augello; Piccoli, Pavoletti

Unavailable:

Questionable: Obert (Illness), Luvumbo (Injured)

Venezia vs Cagliari Prediction

Venezia are still under the tutelage of Eusebio Di Francesco but he is under pressure as they sit rock-bottom in Serie A. Their style of football has been tweaked to be more defensive and cautious but that hasn’t been the case in the last couple of weeks. They now face a Cagliari side that have been steadily improved since an awful start to the campaign and it would appear a good value bet to side with the visitors for this one.

Venezia vs Cagliari Tip: Double chance – Cagliari to win or draw
