Varvara Gracheva vs Sonay Kartal prediction

At her last event in Charleston, her first event of the clay court season, Vavara Gracheva managed to get past Harriet Dart but lost in straight sets to Elise Mertens in the second-round. The French number one has lost at that stage in three of her last four tournaments and would love to have a breakthrough run at one of the upcoming clay events, starting here.

Sonay Kartal is making her first start on clay this season, having not played since failing to get out of Miami qualifying. Her previous run at Indian Wells was far more encouraging, as she won five successive matches, from the first round of qualifying to reaching the round-of-16, before a straight sets loss to world number one Aryna Sabalenka.

Kartal is not as comfortable on the clay, which could favour Gracheva, who has won 7 ITF titles on the surface and reached the fourth round of the French Open last year. We think she’s good value for the win.
