Valentin Vacherot enjoyed a thoroughly comprehensive victory against Jan-Lennard Struff in his first round match, not even offering up a break point on his way to thrashing the German 6-2 6-1. A win of that nature should give Vacherot some confidence, having lost in qualifying at a Challenger event in Girona and not making it past the first round at the Bucharest Open. 

Grigor Dimitrov’s transition to the European clay clay seemed comfortable for the majority of the Bulgarian’s first-round match against Nicolas Jarry, though he did squander five match points and needed to save five break points when serving out the match.

Dimitrov eventually got the job done, winning 6-3 6-4, and he now has a 24-11 record in Monte-Carlo, the second best amongst active players. These two actually played each other in the first round of the event last year, with Dimitrov defeating the homeboy 7-5 6-2. We expect a similar result to take place once again.
