UNION SAINT-GILLOISE PREVIEW: LACKING FORM
Royale Union Saint-Gilloise come into this one on the back of a 1-1 draw against Mechelen in their most recent outing, at the weekend. Union SG have overperformed pre-season expectations in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League in the last couple of seasons but they now sit tenth in the table at this stage.
They have started their 2024/25 UEFA Europa League league phase campaign by collecting two points from their opening three matches. They were beaten 2-1 by Fenerbahce in Istanbul in mid-to-late-September before they then shared back-to-back draws against Bodo/Glimt and Midtjylland.
ROMA PREVIEW: ROMAN RUINS
Ivan Juric is under immense pressure in charge of Roma with reports suggesting that Frank Lampard is being lined up by the Friedkin Group to take charge of the Giallorossi. Juric was only appointed Roma boss in mid-September but he is already on the verge of being let go as they languish in the bottom-half of the Serie A table.
The Romans come into this one on the back of a 3-2 defeat against Hellas Verona at the Marcantonio Bentegodi in their most recent outing at the weekend. That followed on from a slender midweek win against Torino but that win against Torino is one of just two wins in their last seven matches across all competitions.
UNION SAINT-GILLOISE TEAM NEWS: A FEW ISSUES
Morocco international and former Southampton playmaker Sofiane Boufal is a doubt for Union SG this week as he recovers from a knock that has seen him out in recent weeks.
As well as the potential absence of Boufal, Mamadou Toure is also a doubt for this one. Both Alessio Castro and Henok Teklab are also unavailable due to injury.
PREDICTED XI (3-1-4-2): Moris; Mac Allister, Burgess, Machida; Vanhoutte; Khalaili, Niang, Rasmussen, Sadiki; Kevin Rodriguez, Fuseini
UNAVAILABLE: Teklab (Injured), Castro (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE: Traore (Injured), Boufal (Injured)
ROMA TEAM NEWS: FINDING SOMETHING
Roma have been able to welcome back Italy international Stephan El Shaarawy in the last week or so after he had missed a couple of weeks due to injury.
However, summer signing Alexis Saelemaekers is still a strong doubt for this one, whilst defender Mario Hermoso is missing due to injury after joining this summer.
PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Svilar; Celik, Ndicka, Hummels; Zalewski, Kone, Le Fee, Tasende; Baldanzi, Pisilli; Dovbyk
UNAVAILABLE: Mario Hermoso (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE: Saelemaekers (Injured)
UNION SAINT-GILLOISE VS ROMA PREDICTION
Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, much like affiliate club Brighton and Hove Albion are a selling club with impressive recruitment but they may have sold off one too many assets this summer. For this week, though, they have the chance to put the final nail in Ivan Juric’s Roman career coffin with the Giallorossi significantly underperforming. As a result of both sides being remarkably inconsistent, we could have quite a chaotic encounter in Brussels.
UNION SAINT-GILLOISE VS ROMA TIP: UNDER 2.5 GOALS
