Union Berlin Team News: Rothe suspended

Union Berlin have quite a surprisingly large squad as Steffen Baumgart gets to grips with his underperforming hosts but they do have some key absentees for this weekend.

Defender Tim Rothe is missing through suspension for this one, whilst Denmark international Frederik Ronnow is missing through injury alongside Ivan Pratjin.

Predicted XI (4-5-1): Schwolow; Trimmel, Doekhi, Vogt, Roussillon; Hollerbach, Kemlein, Khedira, Tousart, Jeong; Pefok

Unavailable: Ronnow (Injured), Rothe (Suspended), Pratjin (Injured)

Mainz Team News: No Burkardt

Attacking midfielder and key man Nadiem Amiri has been suspended of late but has now returned to the squad to bolster the visitors’ side ahead of the trip to the capital city.

They have some key injury concerns, though, with top scorer Jonathan Burkardt set to once again be unavailable alongside both Maxim Dal and Gabriel Vidovic.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Zentner; Da Costa, Bell, Hanche-Olsen; Caci, Sano, Kohr, Mwene; Amiri, Lee; Sieb

Unavailable: Dal (Injured), Vidovic (Injured), Burkardt (Injured)

Union Berlin vs Mainz Prediction

Steffen Baumgart took charge of Union Berlin over the winter break, replacing Bo Svensson, but things have been really underwhelming thus far. The hosts began with a 2-0 loss to struggling Heidenheim last weekend before Alexis Claude-Maurice notched a brace a few days later to give Augsburg a 2-0 win in Berlin. They now face a Mainz side that remain in the top six, despite a slender loss to defending champions and title challenging Bayer Leverkusen at the BayArena in midweek. Mainz have been excellent in both defence and attack this season and siding with them is the safest bet against a flailing Mainz side.

Union Berlin vs Mainz Tip: Double chance – Mainz to win or draw
