Ugo Humbert enters the new year ranked number 14 in the world and the Frenchman will be hoping to pick up where he left off. His final tournament of the ATP Tour season was at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Paris where he went all the way to the final before eventually running out of steam and losing to Alexander Zverev.
It was some end to the campaign as he beat Carlos Alcaraz en route to the final and that saw him wrap up the year with a record of 39-24 and two titles. He has had a good rest since then and will be raring to go for his nation now.
He faces Switzerland’s Dominic Stricker and both players will know the outcome of this match will either seal the tie for their nation or take it to a mixed doubles’ decider.
The 22-year-old Swiss talent had some good results at the back end of the season in Stockholm and Basel on the ATP Tour but the vast majority of his season was spent on the Challenger Tour. He has picked up some good wins over the likes of Matteo Berrettini and Tallon Griekspoor in 2024, but a fresh and revitalised Humbert is likely to be too strong for him here.
We fully expect this to go to the doubles match or France to ultimately edge it either in the singles or over the three matches.
