Tottenham Preview: Some big wins
Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou will hope the pressure from some dissenting supporters has slightly eased of late with the hosts coming into this one on the back of very different but much-needed victories against struggling opposition.
They edged past fellow underachievers Manchester United by a goal to nil around ten days ago before they then cruised past Ipswich Town by four goals to one at Portman Road at the weekend to push them back towards the top-half of the table but still some way off.
Man City Preview: The decline of City
Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City do begin the match day sitting tucked inside the top four of the table but their poor season and general collapse from extremely high standards has been illuminated further in the last week or so.
They suffered a 3-1 defeat at the Bernabeu against Real Madrid last week in the knockout playoff round of the UEFA Champions League, losing 6-3 on aggregate, before then being comfortably beaten 2-0 by Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium the other day.
Tottenham Team News: No new injuries
Ange Postecoglou has said that he is expecting a similar squad to the same squad that was involved at the weekend. The quartet of Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Richarlison and Dominic Solanke could be back for their next game, whilst Timo Werner has returned to training.
Predicted XI (4-3-3): Vicario; Spence, Gray, Danso, Udogie; Kulusevski, Bentancur, Bergvall; Johnson, Tel, Son
Unavailable: Dragusin (Injured), Romero (Injured), Van de Ven (Injured), Davies (Injured), Richarlison (Injured), Solanke (Injured)
Questionable: Werner (Fitness)
Man City Team News: Hopeful on Haaland
Pep Guardiola has said he is hopeful of Erling Haaland being fit to play against Tottenham but a decision will have to be made closer to the game. They still have a few key absentees such as defenders John Stones and Manuel Akanji as well as Ballon d'Or winner Rodri.
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Ederson; Khusanov, Dias, Ake, Gvardiol; Gundogan, Kovacic; Foden, Marmoush, Savio; Haaland
Unavailable: Akanji (Injured), Stones (Injured), Rodri (Injured), Bobb (Fitness)
Questionable: Haaland (Fitness)
Tottenham vs Man City Prediction
Tottenham’s 26 games in this season’s Premier League have consisted of 91 goals and that sort of entertainment has been emulated across all competitions. Remarkably, despite sitting comfortably in the bottom-half of the table, only league leaders Liverpool have scored more than them this season. Spurs, alongside Liverpool, are the only teams to have scored more than Manchester City and with both sides’ obvious defensive openings and shortcomings, a high-scoring affair seems almost inevitable this week.
Tottenham vs Man City Tip: Over 2.5 goals
