Tottenham Preview: Not long for Ange
Last month, Tottenham Hotspur took a 1-0 lead to Anfield in the semi-finals of the EFL Cup but eventually lost 4-1 on aggregate and then a few days later suffered a 2-1 loss to Aston Villa in the fourth round of the FA Cup as their season spiralled out of control.
With performances slightly improving in the league, Spurs’ only hope of salvaging a miserable campaign was and is in the UEFA Europa League but they come into this one on the back of a very deflating 1-0 loss to AZ Alkmaar in the first-leg of their Round of 16 tie in midweek.
Bournemouth Preview: Pushing for Europe
Andoni Iraola’s AFC Bournemouth have managed just one victory inside 90 minutes in their last five matches across all competitions but the Cherries remain firmly in contention for a top five spot and potential UEFA Champions League qualification this season.
They also have a chance of securing their first ever piece of major silverware this season having reached the quarter-finals of this season’s FA Cup last weekend, defeating Wolverhampton Wanderers on penalties at the Vitality Stadium.
Tottenham Team News: Solanke injury
After limping off against AZ Alkmaar on his return due to what is hoped to just be an impact injury, England international Dominic Solanke will be assessed ahead of this one. Ben Davies has a 'chance' of returning according to Postecoglou, whilst both Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven returned to the bench in midweek.
Predicted XI (4-3-3): Vicario; Porro, Gray, Danso, Udogie; Bergvall, Bentancur, Maddison; Johnson, Tel, Son
Unavailable: Draguson (Injured), Kulusevski (Injured), Richarlison (Injured)
Questionable: Davies (Fitness), Solanke (Injured)
Bournemouth Team News: A few issues
Bournemouth are continuing to monitor and manage the fitness of Scotland international Ryan Christie, whilst Mexico international right-back Julian Araujo has suffered a setback so remains sidelined. Marcos Senesi was also due back in training this week but there has been no further update, whilst fellow centre-back Illya Zabarnyi remains suspended.
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Kepa; Cook, Hill, Huijsen, Kerkez; Christie, Adams; Brooks, Kluivert, Semenyo; Ouattara
Unavailable: Senesi (Fitness), Zabanyi (Suspended), Smith (Injured), Araujo (Injured), Unal (Injured)
Questionable: Christie (Fitness)
Tottenham vs Bournemouth Prediction
Ange Postecoglou has whinged quite a lot about injuries throughout this season and tried to excuse poor performance and results with that but that is no longer really the case now and they could even rotate this weekend and remain strong ahead of their second-leg against AZ. Bournemouth will hope to have regrouped a touch as they try and bounce back from three losses in four Premier League games but, on the counter-attack and with their intense press, they will fancy their chances against a static, stagnant and seemingly arrogant Spurs side.
Tottenham vs Bournemouth Tip: Double chance – Bournemouth to win or draw
