Torino Preview: Torino struggles
Ivan Juric was in charge of a Torino side that finished eighth in Serie A but their 38 matches consisted of 72 goals with 36 scored and 36 conceded. That limited style of football saw Juric depart and be replaced by tactical disciple of Antonio Conte, Paolo Vanoli, who led Venezia to the top-flight of Italian football last season.
The Piedmont-based club started the season well but they have since endured a difficult run of form. Torino come into this one having suffered a 2-0 loss to Juventus in the Derby della Mole a couple of weeks ago thanks to strikes from Kenan Yildiz and Timothy Weah. That means they have now suffered three successive victories.
Monza Preview: Trying to rebuild
Last season, the ambitious Berlusconi-family-led project of Monza looked like they may try and challenge for a top seven finish in the near future but they lost manager Raffaele Palladino to Fiorentina and replaced him with AC Milan legend Alessandro Nesta, who had most recently underwhelmed in charge of Serie B side Reggiana.
They have managed just one victory in their opening 12 matches of the campaign with five draws in that time showing how little emphasis they put on attacking play. Monza come into this one on the back of a 1-0 defeat at home to Lazio at the Stadio Brianteo thanks to a Mattia Zaccagni 36th minute strike a couple of weeks ago.
Torino Team News: No Duvan Zapata
Both Che Adams and Duvan Zapata have formed an impressive partnership together but Torino’s dip in form has been as a result of both being injured recently.
Adams has returned but the Colombian remains sidelined for the hosts, whilst Netherlands international Perr Schuurs is out injured alongside Ivan Ilic.
Predicted XI (3-5-1-1): Milinkovic-Savic; Walukiewicz, Saul Coco, Masina; Pedersen, Linetty, Ricci, Tameze, Lazaro; Vlasic; Tonny Sanabria
Unavailable: Schuurs (Injured), Ilic (Injured), Duvan Zapata (Injured)
Questionable:
Monza Team News: A few issues
Monza are dealing with a few key injury issues for this weekend as both Alessio Cragno and Stefano Sensi are doubtful for Monza with a few key doubts, too.
Italy international defender Danilo D’Ambrosio is an injury doubt as well as experienced midfielder Roberto Gagliardini and former Manchester United winger Omari Forson.
Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Turati; Izzo, Pablo Mari, Carboni; Pedro Pereira, Bondo, Bianco, Kyriakopoulos; Dany Mota, Maldini; Djuric
Unavailable: Cragno (Injured), Sensi (Injured)
Questionable: D’Ambrosio (Injured), Gagliardini (Injured), Forson (Injured)
Torino vs Monza Prediction
As mentioned, Monza have struggled for goals throughout the campaign despite their improvement in the last month and a half or so. They travel to a Torino side that have perhaps been a little chaotic at both ends of the pitch but will need to get back to basics to rebuild after a poor run of form. Given that, we could see something of a stalemate between two sides not willing to give too much away.
Torino vs Monza Tip: Under 2.5 goals
