Tommy Paul vs Alexander Zverev Prediction
Tommy Paul has stormed through to the last eight having dropped just 11 games across the last two rounds, both of which saw the American triumph in straight sets. His most recent display was his most dominating yet, thrashing Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6-1, 6-1, 6-1. Paul’s cutting edge, particular when on serve was high class with him converting 84% of his successful first serves into winning points.
Second seed Alexander Zverev has lived up to the high expectations upon him pre-tournament and is now just three wins away from a first Grand Slam title. The German has won 14 of his last 15 games and has dropped just one set so far across four rounds of Tennis.
However, in order to reach the last four, he must overcome an opponent who has beaten him in each of their last two showdowns. Both those matches took place on outdoor hard courts last year, with Paul triumphing both in Acapulco and Indian Wells. But the most recent of those fixtures took place in 2022 and Zverev is a much better player now than he was back then.
Expect an exciting contest that should see Paul’s defence tested to the maximum against Zverev’s excellent serve, the accuracy of which give his opponents such little chance to counter it. Paul’s athleticism and movement across the court should see him outmanoeuvre Zverev on occasions and it would be no surprise to see him pick up at least one set here.
Ultimately though, Zverev’s power and relentless first serve should give him a critical edge over Paul and backing the former to win in over three sets has to be favoured.
Tommy Paul vs Alexander Zverev Tip: Alexander Zverev to win and both players to win a set
