Tomas Machac vs Jakub Mensik Prediction

Tomas Machac has shown no signs off the issues and illness that forced him to withdraw from Indian Wells a couple of weeks ago and he has come through two tough matches to reach this stage. He came through a three-set battle with Matteo Arnaldi in his first match and then managed to handle Reilly Opelka’s powerhouse serve to beat him 7-6 6-3 last time out.

That will give him plenty of confidence as he meets friend and compatriot Jakub Mensik in the round of 16. They did meet in Acapulco just a few weeks ago and it was Machac who beat Mensik in three sets.

Mensik will not be overly phased by that coming into this match and he can take plenty of confidence from his performances so far in Miami. He has beaten Roberto Bautista Agut, Indian Wells champion Jack Draper and then Roman Safiullin so he will fancy his chances of avenging that loss in Acapulco.

Machac, five years older than Mensik, will be eager to put another marker down and will have fierce motivation to prove he is the top Czech player. He just has that edge in consistency and we think he will be fired up and able to consolidate his position against the younger man here.
