Tomas Machac vs Alex de Minaur prediction

Tomas Machac came from a set down to defeat Sebastian Baez 3-6 6-3 6-2 and advance through to the next round. This was a fine way for the Czech player to begin his European clay court season, with Baez having already reached three clay court finals this season, including in Bucharest just a few days ago.

Machac can adapt his game to the red clay, having reached one of his two ATP Tour finals on the surface and won the mixed doubles at the Paris Olympics last year. He will be a tough second-round opponent for eighth seed Alex de Minaur, who received a bye in the first round. In Miami, he beat Joao Fonseca in a thrilling third-round match before a defeat against Matteo Berrettini in the round of 16.

De Minaur’s flat groundstrokes don’t have the same impact on clay but he’s one of the best athletes on tour and did make the quarter-finals of this event last year. His ability to endure the long and brutal rallies could give him the edge, but Machac will be a tough opponent. We’re expecting a close one.
