Tomas Etcheverry vs Alex de Minaur prediction
Tomas Etcheverry has had a rather disappointing last few appearances on clay, with a first-round loss at the Houston Open coupled by a defeat at the second stage in Monte-Carlo. The Argentine lost a tight first set tiebreak against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina before going on to lose in straight sets.
His first-round opponent is Alex de Minaur who enjoyed a commendable run to the semi-finals at Monte-Carlo. He showed how good he can be on clay with a thrashing of Daniil Medvedev and then following that up in the quarter-finals with a stunning 6-0 6-0 win over Grigor Dimitrov.
The Australian just missed out on a place in the final, losing a third set tiebreak to Lorenzo Musetti, but he can take great confidence from his run there ahead of the Barcelona Open.
The head-to-head is 1-1, with Etcheverry winning their only encounter on clay in 2023, while the Argentine also reached the semi-finals at the event last year. Despite De Minaur’s encouraging form, we predict a close battle overall.
