UEFA Champions League Final Goalscorers – What Are Their Nationalities?

The Champions League final is the biggest match in European club football. One where legends are made and where goalscorers can write their place in the history books forever.

Throughout the history of the Champions League since the competition’s rebrand back in 1992, players from a total of 22 different nationalities have scored in the final from three different continents. All those nationalities range across three continents, those being Africa, South America and of course, Europe.

But which nation boasts the highest number of Champions League final goalscorers?

Spanish players have combined for a total of 13 Champions League final goals out of 82. That’s comfortably the most of any nation, with the joint-second highest being Brazilian and Italian players, who have scored eight goals each.

Along with Spain, Italy are the only other country not to share their goal tally across Champions League finals with another nation. Italian players have account for 7 goals, the third highest number on the list.

However, the top-scoring player in Champions League final history is not a Spaniard. In fact, he doesn’t represent any nation within the top three. Below is a up-to-date list of the top 12 Champions League final goalscorers post rebrand.

Currently the highest-scorer in the history of the Champions League, it is perhaps no surprise that Cristiano Ronaldo has also scored the most goals across the competition’s final. The former Man Utd, Real Madrid and Juventus star accounted for four of five Portuguese goals, the fifth being scored by Deco in Porto’s victory over Monaco in 2004.

Whilst at Real Madrid, Welsh star Gareth Bale was on the scoresheet three times in the Champions League final, one of those being a spectacular bicycle kick against Liverpool in 2018.
