THE PREDICTION

World number 51 Yulia Putintseva came back from a set down to beat Ajla Tomljanovic in three tough sets on Friday, backing up two strong wins over Magda Linette and Rebecca Peterson. The 27-year-old won her second WTA title last season at the Budapest Open on a hardcourt but she claimed her first on clay at the 2019 Nurnberg Open on what is probably her most comfortable surface. The Kazakh looks set for a tough test on Saturday though as world number 122 Anastasia Potapova is yet to drop a set this week in Istanbul. The 21-year-old set a career-high WTA world ranking of 64th as a teenager in 2019 and it should be sooner rather than later that she returns to those heights if she maintains a level that has beaten the likes of Petra Martic and Sara Sorribes Tormo on clay this week. Putintseva remains the favourite on experience but Potapova deserves the respect of big caution here. Back Putintseva to win at least a set as the likelier of two very capable winners.
