THE PREDICTION
27-year-old Yoshihito Nishioka stunned the top seed Casper Ruud in three sets on Friday to continue his excellent run at the Korea Open. The Japanese number one can set a new career-high ATO world ranking of around 45th by reaching the final in Seoul after also taking out fifth-seed Dan Evans on Tuesday. Nishioka finished runner-up to Nick Kyrgios at the Citi Open last month after defeating five top 40 players in a row and he looks near that level for this first meeting with relative unknown Aleksandar Kovacevic. The 24-year-old will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of around 166th after reaching the semi-finals of the Korea Open on his main tour debut, rallying fabulously from losing in the qualifiers to take his second chance with a stunning victory over Miomir Kecmanovic in the first round. Kovacevic’s momentum should take some serious stopping but playing tricky left-hander Nishioka for the first time will be a huge challenge for the American. Underestimate a run like Kovacevic’s at your peril. The sensible option here is taking Nishioka to win at least a set as the likelier of two capable finalists.
