Former world number two Vera Zvonareva is currently ranked 369th on tour but she is enjoying a fabulous renaissance period right now, at 39 years old, with a straight-sets victory over Tokyo Open champion Veronika Kudermetova on Tuesday. The Russian came back from sets down in bith of her qualifying matches in Zhengzhou to look a real threat to a lot of players this week and her run to the quarter-finals of the Ningbo Open two weeks ago required the eventual champion, Ons Jabeur, to oust her. World number 28 Anhelina Kalinina beat Ellen Perez in comfortable straight sets on Monday but she should find a much tougher challenge here. The 26-year-old claimed back-to-back wins at the China Open, for the first time since her run to the Rome Masers final, to snap a poor streak of form but she is still far from her best on a hardcourt. Kalinina should be coming through in straight sets here but backing Zvonareva to earn at least a set is a tempting one off option.
