THE PREDICTION

Former world number 25 Vasek Pospisil received a wildcard into the Canada Masters draw in Toronto as a Canadian veteran and he should be considered a real threat here with a tendency to find an extra gear whilst representing his country. The 33-year-old is currently ranked 165th after losing five months of this season to injury and he looks set to struggle on this occasion in only his third competitive match back, first at tour-level, with two defeats on the Challenger tour so far. However, world number 66 Matteo Arnaldi will be sad to see his favoured clay go for another season after excelling in some moments, including recently stunning top seed Jiri Lehecka in a run to the Croatia Open final. The 22-year-old has yet to win a tour-level match on a hardcourt this season and this will be is first on the surface since the Dubai Tennis Championships in February. Pospisil’s staying power over three sets is certainly a concern but back the Canadian, outside of an accumulator, to earn at least a set backed by a partisan atmosphere in Toronto.
