27-year-old Taylor Townsend received a wildcard to the main draw at the US Open and she comes with some serious promise in the Women’s Doubles after winning the Cincinnati title alongside Alycia Parks last week. The world number 134 is a player with clear top 30 potential but time is running out for her to find enough consistency to do so, with her career-high WTA ranking set at 61st back in 2018. World number 41 Varvara Gracheva is just one place behind her own career-high set this season after she finished runner-up to Marta Kostyuk at the Austin Open. The 23-year-old has won her first round match in each of the last three Grand Slams this season and she has impressed at this level in recent years, with back-to-back third rounds made here before an early exit last summer. Townsend is a hugely popular home hopeful who will be desperate to give the Flushing Meadows crowd something to get behind.
