World number 43 Ugo Humbert is one of the less predictable players on the ATP tour capable of beating almost anybody on his day. The 23-year-old won a first ATP 500 event last summer on grass at the Halle Open before injury curtailed his season. He then beat now world number one Daniil Medvedev in his first match for over three months at the ATP Cup in January and has since lost five matches on the spin. The Frenchman should be winning this encounter with Danish teenager Holger Rune in these conditions, with 18-year-old Rune already an excellent test on clay, but given his losing streak this looks tricky. World number 86 Rune qualified well with two victories over Americans in the qualifiers and the slower courts of Indian Wells could give him some clay sensibilities to play with. There is more than a scent of upset about this tie so take Humbert to win at least a set cautiously or leave it alone altogether.
