World number nine Taylor Fritz beat Rinky Hijikata in straight sets on Friday to continue a solid defence of his Delray Beach Open title. The 26-year-old endured a sorry end to last season but he looked like returning to some semblance of form at the Australian Open last month, where he took a set form Novak Djokovic before defeat in the quarter-finals. 30-year-old Marcos Giron will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of around 44th after victory over Patrick Kypson on Thursday and the elder American stands a reasonable chance at the upset here after enjoying some excellent form in recent weeks. Giron came perilously close to winning his maiden ATP title in a three-set defeat to Tommy Paul last week in Dallas and victories over the likes of Frances Tiafoe and Adrian Mannarino, twice, in this period suggest he is playing at a top 30 level. Fritz leads their head-to-head 3-1 at tour-level but each of their last three clashes have been hard-fought three-setters to suggest this could be a real tussle. Back Fritz to win outright.
