THE PREDICTION

A first encounter between world number eight Holger Rune and number 10 Taylor Fritz should be a proper thriller on Tuesday. 25-year-old Fritz will benefit from a partisan support as the home favourite in Miami and he looked in excellent shape against old foe Denis Shapovalov in the third round to come through with his serve unscathed. 19-year-old Rune is also through to the round of 16 without dropping a set after some reasonably straightforward wins over Marton Fucsovics and Diego Schwartzman but despite some strong runs in recent months it can be argued that the Dane is currently some way off the peak of his powers that saw him stun Novak Djokovic at the Paris Masters last November. Three sets seem likelier than two here but Rune has a lot of work to do in matches where he is not the crowd’s favourite. Back Fritz to win outright here but consider adding at least a tiebreak outside of an accumulator.
