Taylor Fritz has already surpassed his best-ever quarter-final finish at the US Open which came last year, and after beating Alexander Zverev in style on Tuesday night, he will have high hopes of reaching the final.
Fritz was in outstanding form against Zverev and fully deserved the win. The level of play and the consistent high standard was impressive to see and he will be full of confidence right now coming into this match with compatriot Frances Tiafoe.
Combined with that belief from his results, Fritz can also lean on an impressive head-to-head record against Tiafoe. They have met seven times previously and Fritz has won the last six in a row. There have been many tight matches and sets but ultimately, Fritz has dominated Tiafoe and is a great match-up stylistically for him.
Tiafoe will have his own belief that he is playing better than ever and understandably so. He beat Grigor Dimitrov on Tuesday as the Bulgarian withdrew in the fourth as the match was more or less finished in Tiafoe’s favour.
