TAYLOR FRITZ VS DAVID GOFFIN PREDICTION
Taylor Fritz cruised into the quarter-finals after hammering Holger Rune 6-1 6-2 on Wednesday. In what looked like an even match on paper, Fritz paid zero attention to that and wiped the floor with Rune. The Dane was incredibly disappointing, but for as poor as he was, Fritz was outstanding and nothing should be taken away from him.
His first serve was dominant as he blasted nine aces and won 86% on first serve and that kind of form will see him go deep in this tournament if he can maintain that. After two solid performances prior to this one, Fritz really took his level up a notch in this one.
He now meets David Goffin who really is rolling back the years. He spoke about the mental side of his game coming back together and feeling more confident in himself, while the physical side is holding up too. He comes off a sensational win over Alexander Zverev in straight sets and it was fully deserved. His serving was outstanding while the defensive side of his game was on point too.
He got all the basics right and that win will give him another major confidence boost.
The pair have met twice before but those two meetings came back in 2018 and 2021 so it is hard to read too much into those. Each player won a match apiece and each match went to a deciding set. We marginally prefer Fritz to edge this but it really is close to call.
Our preference here is on game betting and we see this being a tight match with both players enjoying good spells. Over 21.5 games gives the comfort of it going to three sets or two close sets including a tiebreaker which we can see happening.
