TAYLOR FRITZ VS ALEXANDER ZVEREV PREDICTION
Taylor Fritz and Alexander Zverev meet for a 10th time and it is the German who edges the head-to-head having won five of the nine meetings so far. As the record would suggest, there is very little between the two and the matches themselves have followed suit. The last match came just at Wimbledon this year and it was Fritz who edged a five-set thriller. That was their third meeting at Wimbledon and the previous two were won by Zverev and also went four and five sets.
Fritz has grown into this tournament and is getting better by the match. He had a tough second-round match against Matteo Berrettini which he came through in flying colours and his last match in the round of 16 against Casper Ruud was another tough test. He lost the first set but responded in style winning the next three.
He now meets Zverev who has had two similar matches against Tomas Etcheverry and Brandon Nakashima where he lost the first set after a slow start and then clicked into gear winning the next three.
Zverev has impressed and was shape in Cincinnati also, and he will be confident coming into this match. Fritz will provide a tough test for him however and this really is one of those matches that could go either way. It is likely to be one which ebbs and flows with both players enjoying moments of control but it is surely going to be another lengthy battle between the old foes. Back over 3.5 sets with confidence in this one and stay clear of the match winner.
