THE PREDICTION

World number five Stefanos Tsitsipas overcame the unique test of France’s favoured firebrand on Thursday, beating Corentin Moutet in straight sets. The 24-year-old is serving well, facing just one break point so far, and that is usually a great marker for his chances at a tournament but this will certainly be his biggest challenge yet in Paris. World number 31 Tommy Paul has taken out three Spaniards on the spin in Roberto Bautista Agut, Pablo Carreno Busta and second-seed Rafael Nadal, the latter of which was the biggest win of the American’s career. 25-year-old Paul is yet to take a set form Tsitsipas in two defeats but he can be exactly the kind of player Tsitsipas has often faltered against this season, with the Greek still seeking out his previous ruthlessness. Backing Tsitsipas to win at least a set is the sensible option from this potential thriller but it would not be a surprise to see Paul, currently on cloud nine, grab the upset win here.
