THE LOWDOWN
STEFANOS TSITSIPAS
World number five Stefanos Tsitsipas beat Alex de Minaur in straight sets late on Monday night to reach the round of 16 at a Masters for the first time in three attempts. The 23-year-old won his only ATP 1000 event to date almost a year ago at the Monte-Carlo Open as the best player on clay that swing but he looks set to battle a resurgent Rafael Nadal for that crown this time around. Tsitsipas reached a first Grand Slam final on clay last season, taking the first two sets against Novak Djokovic before losing in three.
CARLOS ALCARAZ
World number 16 Carlos Alcaraz beat Marin Cilic in straight sets on Monday to continue his searing form. The 18-year-old beat Diego Schwartzman to win the Rio Open last month for a second overall ATP title and he can usurp the Argentine into a new career-high ATP world ranking of 15th if he reaches the quarter-finals. Alcaraz reached the semi-finals of Indian Wells two weeks ago before a three-set defeat to Rafael Nadal.
THE PREDICTION
World number five Stefanos Tsitsipas beat Alex de Minaur for an eighth time for an altogether more composed performance in the third round of the Miami Open after struggling to get past qualifier J.J. Wolf in the round before. The Greek has suffered shock exits from his last three tournaments to Roman Safiullin at Open 13, Cam Norrie at the Mexican Open and Jenson Brooksby at Indian Wells last time out whilst Alcaraz has lost just twice this season to Mateo Berrettini and more recently Rafael Nadal. Backing the Spaniard as outright winner here is no surprise given his insatiable form but reducing that to at least a set would be wise inside an accumulator. Alcaraz famously beat Tsitsipas over five sets at the US Open last season.
