THE PREDICTION

This should be a proper blockbuster on the Barcelona Open’s show court late on Friday as world number five Stefanos Tsitsipas takes on number 11 Carlos Alcaraz for the first time on clay. 18-year-old Alcaraz overcame an early struggle against Soonwoo Kwon on Wednesday to beat Jaume Munar in straight sets earlier today and he should be the fresher of the two after an early exit at the Monte-Carlo Open last week. 23-year-old Tsitsipas defended his title in Monte-Carlo with a superb campaign and he takes a seven-match winning streak into this quarter-final after beating Grigor Dimitrov comfortably on Friday afternoon. Tsitsipas should be fit enough to tackle Alcaraz here but the young Spaniard certainly seems to have an early hold over the Greek with a 2-0 lead in their head-to-head record. Alcaraz famously beat Tsitsipas in five sets at the US Open last September but an altogether more assured straight-sets victory at the Miami Open last month suggests he is the slightest favourite here.

There are plenty of arguments for both players to reach the semi-finals but take home favourite Alcaraz to utilise the crowd in the key moments for an outright win.
