THE PREDICTION
World number 10 Frances Tiafoe beat wildcard Learner Tien in straight sets on Monday to get his US Open campaign underway without a hitch. The 25-year-old reached the semi-finals here last season before a five-set defeat to eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz and he comes into New York with even more expectation on his shoulders after claiming his second and third ATP titles in Houston and Stuttgart, respectively. 27-year-old Sebastian Ofner set a career-high ATP world ranking of 52nd last month after a career-best run to the round of 16 at Roland-Garros on his favoured clay but the Austrian snapped a four-match losing streak on Monday with a four-set win over Nuno Borges. A first hardcourt win for the season should give him some confidence but he faces an uphill climb against home favourite Tiafoe, who should revel in the night session on Arthur Ashe. Straight sets should do it but back Tiafoe to win outright inside an accumulator.
