THE PREDICTION

World number 36 Sebastian Korda passed a significant test on Thursday in beating Karen Khachanov in straight sets. The 22-year-old finished runner-up to Andrey Rublev at the Gijon Open last weekend in a welcome return to some consistent form after a season full of occasional excellence but too many sub-par performances. This will be a fascinating quarter-final against world number 39 Yoshihito Nishioka, who has also enjoyed some incredible form in recent months after a period in the wilderness. The 27-year-old beat Jaume Munar in straight sets on Wednesday for a more assured performance after a shaky start but a recent title-winning campaign at the Korea Open saw brilliant results over the likes of Casper Ruud and Denis Shapovalov. Korda beat Nishioka en-route to his maiden title at the Emilia-Romagna Open last season but the Japanese will be a much tougher prospect here. Back Korda to win at least a set and leave the victor up to chance but consider leaving this head-scratcher out of any promising accumulators.
