THE PREDICTION
This looks set to be a well-contested, tight first meeting between fellow Spaniards Sara Sorribes-Tormo and Nuria Parrizas-Diaz. World number 31 Sorribes Tormo won her first WTA tour title last season at the Guadalajara Open and after failing to defend that title last week she looks in decent shape at the Monterrey Open this week. Still, world number 51 Parrizas-Diaz has put away the tougher foes so far and in more convincing fashion with two straight-sets wins over Misaki Doi and Heather Watson. Taking the fast-improving Parrizas-Diaz, a late bloomer at 30 years old, to win at least a set as the just-about likelier of two capable winners looks like the shrewd move here.
