THE PREDICTION

26-year-old Ryan Peniston stunned the Queen’s top seed Casper Ruud via two tiebreaks on Tuesday for a career-best ranking win over the world number five. The left-hander has suddenly found the form of his career on grass this month with back-to-back quarter-finals reached at the Surbiton and Nottingham Challengers but beating Ruud on his full ATP tour debut could be the turning point in what has often been a promising talent. Peniston will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of around 157th no matter the outcome of this clash with Francisco Cerundolo but there is scope for more against the enigmatic Argentine, who only claimed the first grass win of his career against Pedro Martinez on Tuesday. World number 46 Cerundolo enjoyed a stunning run to the semi-finals of the Miami Masters back in March but at times rode his luck there. The 23-year-old is clearly as good as his ranking but this will be a tough day against the last Brit in the draw and a severe underdog in Peniston. Back the home hopeful to win at least a set here and leave the winner up to chance.
