THE PREDICTION

27-year-old Nicolas Jarry comes into the Cincinnati Open at a career-high ATP world ranking of 26th as he continues to enjoy the best season of his career. The Chilean now has three ATP career titles after winning on his favoured clay at home in Santiago and more recently in Geneva but he has thoroughly impressed on grass this season too, with a recent run to the third round at Wimbledon seeing him go toe-to-toe with eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz over four sets. 26-year-old Roman Safiullin went one further at Wimbledon with a quarter-final exit to Jannik Sinner that saw him set a new career-high ATP world ranking of 43rd. The Russian has dropped back down to 63rd this week after missing more than a month from tour since and it remains to be seen if he can push on over the hardcourt swing. Jarry suffered an early exit in Toronto, albeit to a top opponent in Ugo Humbert, but he should be better for it here. Take the Chilean to edge through this intriguing first meeting.
