THE PREDICTION

World number 64 Roberto Carballes Baena returned to the Marrakech Open one year on from claiming his second ATP title here At Alexandre Muller’s expense but he will face a much tougher foe this time around in Matteo Berrettini. Former number six Berrettini came back from a set down to oust up-and-coming Mariano Navone on Saturday to string four wins on tour for the first time since making the quarter-finals of the US Open in 2022 and he will throw everything at this final as he aims to cap off what looks to be, finally, a return to some sort of fitness. 31-year-old Carballes Baena beat Pavel Kotov in straight sets on Saturday to bring fresher legs into this likely thriller but Berrettini leads their head-to-head 2-1 with at least a set in all three of their encounters to look the favourite. This is a tough call considering RCB’s affinity with the conditions, so take Berrettini to earn at least a set inside an accumulator or back the Italian to just edge this on its own.
