QINWEN ZHENG VS JASMINE PAOLINI PREDICTION
22-year-old Qinwen Zheng looked in some trouble in her round of 16 clash with the super talented young Canadian Leylah Fernandez but she battled back to come from a set down and win the second and third sets losing just three games.
Losing the first set was something of a wake-up call to her and that happened in a couple of her matches last week in Beijing at the China Open too.
Qinwen will be particularly fired up as she felt somewhat hard done by after picking up some scrapes due to a nasty fall at the China Open before going on to get knocked out by Karolina Muchova and that determination this week is there to see.
She now meets pocket rocket Jasmine Paolini who has had a mixed time of it in recent tournaments. Ever since reaching the final at Wimbledon, she has not been close to her best and her doubles play has arguably been better than her singles. That will not distract her here though and she will want to go far in this tournament.
The pair have played twice before with both meetings coming in 2023, and Qinwen Zheng won both of those matches.
Our preference here is for Qinwen to progress and beat Paolini for a third successive time. She was in fine form last week before her fall and subsequent defeat to Muchova and she is generally playing at a high level. She can go far this week in her native China and she should get the win here.
