NUNO BORGES VS JAKUB MENSIK PREDICTION

Nuno Borges faced a tricky match against Thanasi Kokkinakis on Thursday but he passed that test with flying colours in straight sets. That came after a hammering of Federico Coria and Borges must be full of confidence right now thanks to his performances and results.

He does not have much pedigree in this tournament nor in Grand Slams overall but he did reach the fourth round in the Australian Open earlier this year and he will be confident of matching that feat in New York.

18-year-old Jakub Mensik came through a five-set slog against Tristan Schoolkate and that included winning a tiebreak in both the fourth and fifth sets. He continues to impress, not only in his play, but in his mentality.

He now has to go again in this clash with Nuno Borges but that is easier said than done. Borges is playing consistently high quality tennis and we expect him to have the edge here and progress to week two in New York.
