THE PREDICTION

World number one Novak Djokovic will play his first singles match on tour since September 10th, when he beat Daniil Medvedev to the US Open title to pick up a Men’s record-extending, and world record-equalling, 24th major title. The 36-year-old played alongside Miomir Kecmanovic in the Men’s Doubles on Tuesday to get some match practice in his legs but he should be relatively untroubled by first singles opponent Tomas Martin Etcheverry, who came back from a set down to oust Kecmanovic earlier on Tuesday. The 24-year-old is enjoying his best form on hardcourts by some way right now, with two eye-catching results over Sebastian Korda and Andy Murray last week in Basel, but Djokovic beat him in straight sets in Rome earlier this season and he should have even more control in these conditions. It would not be a surprise to see a well-contested first set go the Serb’s way in a tiebreak before a more assured second. Back the top seed to win in straight sets.

BETTING TIP: Novak Djokovic to win 2-0.
