THE LOWDOWN

NOVAK DJOKOVIC

Novak Djokovic once again made a slow start in his semi-final against Cameron Norrie before finding his groove and outclassing his opponent to reach his eighth Wimbledon final, although it’s fair to say there have been some chinks in the armour this past fortnight.

NICK KYRGIOS

Nick Kyrgios’ career promised much from an early age but it has taken him some time to reach his first Grand Slam final, but despite the fact he profited from Rafael Nadal’s withdrawal in their schedule semi-final, he is fully deserving of his place in Sunday’s showpiece event based on his performance levels so far.

THE PREDICTION

Although Djokovic has not quite reached the levels he has achieved in previous years at Wimbledon, he has still managed to reach yet another final and now only Nick Kyrgios stands in the way of a 21st Grand Slam title for the Serb Kyrgios has had an eventful tournament to say the least, but the Aussie didn’t even have to step on court in the semi-finals due to Rafa Nadal pulling out of their contest with an abdominal issue. He will obviously be marginally fresher than Djokovic then, but fitness is rarely an issue for Djokovic so it is misleading to think of that as any meaningful advantage. What is meaningful, though, is Kyrgios’ serve, which has been the key to his success at SW19. He now faces the game’s greatest returner but the confidence is surging through the first-time Grand Slam finalist right now, and we are tipping him to hold off Djokovic and claim the Wimbledon trophy.
