THE PREDICTION
World number seven Novak Djokovic will play his fourth ATP tour final of the season at the Tel Aviv Open after beating Roman Safiullin in straight sets on Saturday. The 35-year-old won the Italian Open over Stefanos Tsitsipas and Wimbledon at Nick Kyrgios’ expense but he did lose the Belgrade Open final to Andrey Rublev with more than a little fatigue in his legs. Djokovic should be relatively well-rested for this final, though, with no dropped sets from some comfortable victories this week and he will be confident of victory here against old foe Marin Cilic, whom he leads 18-2 in their head-to-head record. Former world number three Cilic has been enjoying a renaissance summer in terms of form and he looked solid in a straight-sets victory over Constant Lestienne on Saturday but facing a fit Djokovic in a final is perhaps the toughest test in tennis. The Serb has won each of their last four encounters on tour but three sets are distinctly possible here. Back the top seed to win outright.
