THE PREDICTION

This should prove to be the match of the day in Paris-Bercy as world number one Novak Djokovic and defending champion Holger Rune meet for a rematch of last season’s final. 20-year-old Rune had been a strong clay-courter with rising talents on hardcourts until the Paris Masters last season, where he stunned the field and then came back from a set down to prove to the world that he was a future world number one himself. Rune has so far eased through two straight-set matches in Paris but Djokovic was made to work hard by in-form Tallon Griekspoor on Thursday, coming back from a set down to avoid a huge upset leading up to the ATP Finals.

There is an extra bit of spice to this fourth meeting between the two, with Rune leading their head-to-head record 2-1 after winning their Rome Masters quarter-final back in May, as Djokovic’s ex-coach Boris Becker certainly has a few insider-trading secrets to share with his new charge. This will only serve to motivate Djokovic further in his quest to quell a rare negative record on tour – just as he did against Carlos Alcaraz at the Cincinnati Masters in August. Djokovic takes a 14-match winning streak into this clash and he will only improve after a scare against Griekspoor. All three of their previous matches have seen sets go both ways so take Djokovic to win outright here.

BETTING TIP: Novak Djokovic to win.
